Melanie Leupolz is a German professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Chelsea of the FA Women’s Super League and the German national team. She won twice the Bundesliga and FA Women’s Super League. She is also an Olympic silver medalist at the Rio 2016 and UEFA Women’s Euro 2013 champion with Germany.
Melanie Leupolz was born on April 14, 1994, in Wangen im Allgau, Germany. She started playing football at an early age. In her youth career, she was part of TSV Ratzenried and TSV Tettnang. She was one of the most talented German footballers and was the runner-up with the Germany U-20 national team at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup 2012.
Melanie Leupolz joined Freiburg in 2010. In the 2010–11 season, Freiburg was promoted to Bundesliga and on the next year she made her debut in the highest German football league. She played 4 seasons for the team and had 75 appearances and 13 goals.
In 2014, she joined Bayern Munich. With the team, she won twice the Bundesliga in the season 2014/15 and 2015/16. In her six seasons for the team, she had 77 matches and 6 goals.
On 23 March 2020, Melanie Leupolz signed for Chelsea. She won the FA Community Shield and the FA Women’s Super League. However, she went pregnant and missed the next season.
At the international level, Melanie Leupolz was the key player for the German national team. She has total of 75 matches and 13 goals. With the national team, she won the silver medals at the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics, the title at the 2013 UEFA Women’s Championship, and the 2014 Algarve Cup.
