Caroline Seger is a Swedish footballer who plays as a midfielder and club captain for FC Rosengård in the Damallsvenskan league. She is also the current captain of the Swedish national football team. She won the UEFA Women’s Champions League with Olympique Lyon, as well as silver medals from Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 Olympics with the Swedish national football team.
Sara Caroline Seger was born on March 19, 1985, in Helsingborg, Sweden. She started playing football from an early age. Her first youth club was Gantofta IF. In 1998-2000, she played for Rydeback IF and in 2001-2004, she joined the team of Stattena IF.
Caroline Seger made her professional debut in 2005 for Linkopings FC. She played for the team from 2005 to 2009 and served as the club’s captain. Caroline Seger has 139 appearances for Linkopings FC and scored 39 goals. While playing for the team, she was honored as the Damallsvenskan’s Rookie of the Year in 2005 and Midfielder of the Year in 2006 and 2009.
In 2009, Philadelphia Independence drafted Caroline Seger as their first pick. She signed with the team a three-year contract. She scored one goal and posted five assists in her 18 appearances during the first season, but after it underwent surgery on a heel injury.
In December 2010, Caroline Seger played for Western New York Flash. She played 13 matches and scored 5 goals with one assist.
In August 2011 Caroline Seger announced that she would join LdB FC Malmo on a short-term contract to cover the remainder of the 2011 Damallsvenskan season, although she remained undecided about her subsequent destination. In 2011, she was elected for the FIFA Women’s World Cup All-Star Team. However, after 7 matches and 3 goals for the team, she joined Tyreso FF and played from 2012 to 2014. During her stay in the team, Caroline Seger played 46 matches and scored 11 goals.
In early 2014 it became clear that Tyreso FF were in financial difficulty and could not afford to keep Seger and their other leading players. Caroline Seger moved to Paris Saint-Germain with 2-year contract. For the team she scored 6 goals, before moving to Olympique Lyon.
In 2016 she signed with Olympique Lyon, where made her most successful achievements. She won the Division 1 Féminine in 2016–17, Coupe de France Féminine in 2017, and UEFA Women’s Champions League in 2016–17. For the team she played 18 matches.
In 2017, Caroline Seger signed with FC Rosengard. She is playing for the team since then.
With the national team of Sweden, she won third place in FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2011 and 2019, as well as the silver medals in Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
